IRIS MEXICO – CANADA
In 2019, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and other actors, co-hosted the Global Conference on the Regulation of International Recruitment and Protection of Migrant Workers to analyse challenges, opportunities, and good practices to improve the regulation of cross-border labour recruitment. One year later, “The Montreal Recommendations on Recruitment: A Road Map towards Better Regulation” was published.
In 2021 the IOM Mexico and the IRCC, implemented a project to strengthen the migration corridor between Mexico and Canada based on the IRIS principles of ethical recruitment. This effort intended to encourage the adoption of the IRIS standard, a global multi-stakeholder initiative that supports governments, civil society, the private sector and recruitment agencies to establish the ethical recruitment as a norm in cross-border labour migration.
